Secord is the west end's attainable new-build story: a still-growing Lewis Farms community south of Stony Plain Road where first-time buyers and young families can buy a newer detached home, duplex or townhouse without leaving west Edmonton — with a public K–9 school, David Thomas King School, right inside the community, plus three large ponds, parks and playgrounds woven through the streets. If your budget says "newer west-end home" and the Hamptons say "not quite," Secord is where we look.

Schools serving Secord
Checked October 2026 against Edmonton Public Schools (epsb.ca) sources. School boundaries and programs change — confirm designation with the school board before you buy.
Edmonton Public Schools
- David Thomas King School (Kindergarten–Grade 9) — located in Secord at 22707 97 Avenue NW. EPSB's own description: "a Kindergarten to Grade 9 school located in the Secord neighbourhood in west Edmonton." Note for buyers: the school currently uses a lottery process for new resident students in its attendance area; students not selected can attend Youngstown School (K–6) or Michael Phair School (Grades 7–9) — confirm the current year's process with the school.
- Michael Phair School (Grades 7–9, Webber Greens) — EPSB's overflow designated school for David Thomas King; offers regular and Cogito programming in Grades 7–9.

My local favorites in Secord
- David Thomas King School park & sports fields — the community's gathering ground: fields, picnic space and a play structure beside the school, busy every evening in summer.
- Secord's pond trails — three large ponds with walking trails thread the community; pond-backing lots are the first thing I point out on a Secord showing tour.
- Secord Park — playground and open green space in the middle of the community.
- West Henday Promenade — the grocery/banking/pharmacy/restaurant run on the Winterburn Road corridor, minutes from every Secord street.
Insider tips for Secord
- The David Thomas King lottery is real. A K–9 inside the community is a huge draw, but the school runs a lottery for resident students when demand exceeds space — have a Plan B school in mind (Youngstown / Michael Phair overflow) and confirm the current process before you buy on a "school street." (Fact from EPSB school profile, checked October 2026.)
- Secord is still building. New phases mean construction traffic and amenities that arrive in stages — buy the phase, not just the community: finished phases near the ponds live quieter than the active edges.
- Builder-sale vs. resale math differs here. New builds can carry GST and depend on Alberta New Home Warranty coverage; resales don't. On a first purchase, that difference can be worth more than a small price gap — we'll run both sets of numbers (it's exactly where my mortgage licence helps).
- Winterburn Road is the way in and out. The whole Lewis Farms area funnels to Winterburn/Stony Plain Road — drive your commute from the actual street you're considering, at your actual time.
Who Secord suits
- First-time buyers — who want a newer west-end home at the most attainable price point in Lewis Farms.
- Young families — prioritizing a K–9 inside the community and park/pond access.
- Move-up buyers — coming from a condo or townhouse who need west-end space without west-end premium pricing.
